Course Structure

This course consists of 90 minutes of theoretical training and 60 minutes of practical training.

Validity

All patient facing staff must attend resuscitation training  on an annual basis in order to retain their knowledge, skills and confidence in resuscitation skills.

Background

Healthcare staff require the sufficent knowledge and skills to be able to recognise and respond to signs of clinical deterioration. Where healthcare staff can anticipate, identify and respond to signs of clinical deterioration in a patient, they can prevent further decline that might otherwise culminate in a cardiorespiratory arrest. Consequently, there has been a particular focus on promoting greater awareness and understanding of the needs and careof the deteriorating patient.

Whilst the priority is on preventing clinical deterioration, despite our best efforts, some patients will progress to cardiorespiratory arrest and require cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Early and effective resuscitation can save lives.
